Australia Day 2026
The Australia Day shoot was a three day event this year where we shot Sporter on Friday, LB on Saturday and finished with HB on Sunday.
Most competitors arrived early Thursday for practice hoping to tune their rifles and dust off the cobwebs.
Weigh in started at 7:30am for the Sporter on Friday where we had 27 competitors. Darren Parsons started the 100 yards with the small group of .129 on target A and Michael Thompson won the yardage with a .2706 agg

The conditions were getting progressively worse and by the time the 200 yards started it was a challenge seeing bullet holes on the target.
Milan Morrell shot the small group at 200 with a .478 on target B.
John Babic won the yardage with a .3714 aggregate.
The Sporter grand aggregate was won by John Babic with a .3371 agg followed by Michael Thompson on .3375 and Brendan Atkinson on .3785
For the LB we had 31 competitors and in the 100 yards Milan Morrel once again had the small group for the yardage with a .138 on target A.
Michael Thompson won the 100 yards with a .2760 agg.
The 200 yards was all Will Greer, he got the small group with a .272 on target D and won the yardage with a very respectable 0.2936

For the HB on Sunday, we had 32 competitors. The 100 yard small group was won by that man again, Milan Morrell with a .125 on target E.

The 100 yard winner was Murray Hicks with a .2274 agg. Special mention to a new shooter, David Dixon who finished a very close second on a .2276 agg.
Murray hicks got the small group for 200 yards with a .329 on target E and the 200 yard winner was Les Fraser with a .2954 aggregate.

The three gun winner was John Babic with a .3350 followed by Murray Hicks with .3410 and Michael Thompson with .3440

It was a very competitive and great weekend of shooting with lots of fun and usual banter. Great to catch up with a lot of mates and it was good to see a few new shooters having a go at this great sport. Hope to see many of you at the upcoming Nationals in Coffs Harbour.

A great shoot and congrats to all involved, the Tobler family for all their hard work in running the shoot from the target frames to the kitchen there was a tobler in there somewhere putting in the work. Also thanks to Aiden for running the Pad, and Carolyn and the whole target crew for a flawless weekend in hot conditions. Also huge thanks to Ian for scoring and Annie for check scoring and doing all of the thankless hours of admin for the shoot.
Great to see plenty of people travel from all over the country for this match, and plenty of new faces too.
If your keen on Benchrest this is one of the must attend shoots on the calendar.
