I've noted that this forum deals specifically with the technicalities of our sport and there is little general chit chat.

That is most likely a good thing!

But I feel the need to raise/ comment on this topic particularly following the Bondi tragedy yesterday.

I guess it relates to our sport shooting community.

I am very angry that this has happened.

There is no discounting the impact of this, and human tragedies that have occurred. I am distraught that this happened in our great country.

This is not  representative of Australian behaviours.

The premier has already announced that there will be an overhaul of NSW firearms laws.

I was anticipating that the pollies would jump straight on the bandwagon, because we are an easy mark for their grandstanding.

The state and federal government will be looking for their "John Howard Legacy" moment.

This will impact our sport and we will be punished for the failings of our Government.

If we make noise as law abiding firearm owners, the uninformed will point their fingers at us confirming that we are the problem and the outcasts that need to be reigned in...the cause of all societies ills.

I am hopeful that the likes of SSAA and the various other clubs can see their way clear to support and coordinate with each other, that wiser minds than mine, can present a unified front to protect the sensible workable and just future for our sport.

Could not agree more with the above. However, we need to wait and see what changes etc are proposed before making any comments.

Firearm owners have always been popular "whipping boys" in these matters, and we know that this dreadful incident will provide fuel for the anti-gunners. Cooler heads must prevail.

The fact that both the state and federal governments are trumpeting stricter gun laws should be of great concern to all law abiding firearm owners. I agree with Brendan to a point about waiting to see what they propose before we start panicking but, I think we need to be on the front foot in writing to our local members, fed and state, the opposition, media etc.. before they propose any changes because once they do that, the horse will have bolted. Hopefully the SSAA are on top of this.

I don't agree the wait and see approach was had during the tenor of John Howard and look, here we are fighting for our rights to be Australians with the freedom that is us. If you are not informed enough to realise that the time for unity is now then this sport and all shooting sports will be gone to the behest of a terrorist act on our soil. I hear day in day out since the most significant terrorist act on our soil which killed Australians, I don't care where you come from your colour your anything if you live here you are one of us terror has no house anywhere. The Government is politically footballing blame to Gun laws in an attempt to deflect their own policies that brought the unseen enemy in our Country.

Focus on the real issue not throw law abiding shooters to the social media network to hide the real reasons poor political policies. The current Government and its policies have not only got it wrong they are changing the outcome to suit an agenda - really. Where is the consultation, where is the time for restraint shown the legally approved shooters rights a special cabinet meeting set down for 23 and 24th of December 2025.  So be be clear if you want real debate then what about this.

Out of the 60, 000 SSAA members how many are target shooters, 13,000 or so, the rest are sporter hunters, of these how many actually attend a hunting event, SSAA keep the records for this so lets hope it is all of them. If not we will have sporter hunter shooters going through the turn styles paying their $15 to sight their hunting rifle in and never hunt now that's real justification -really. I have seen it at ranges where clay targets are thrown out the front and shooters stand on the firing line and engage mutiple targets as quickly as they can.

What is that teaching a hunter, anyone who hunts knows you are lucky to get 2 shots off before the rest of the pest animals disband. I have hunted foxes, rabbits, pigs, Goats for most of my life if you get a second shot you weren't that good with your first.

Be realistic this Government is convening a special cabinet to ram this through without consultation, without due process then taking any form of right of reply off the table.

If you can remain silent then decide if the sport we enjoy gets taken away from us don't whinge then. I am certainly not going to. If the laws are passed and my target shooting sports are taken away then my rights in this country are taken away. I worked in an environment for 30years dealing with the worst that society had, serial killers rapist murderers, etc etc etc. I am also the one who in 2019 risked my life to protect the community and Australia during the horrific fires. I am not seeking any rewards i am seeking every Australian to be protected in this country.

We are not protected we are vulnerable, we have a Government, state and Federal that immediately attack gun control, really what about -

immigration numbers background checks refusal of entry

Flag burning

hate speech at Rally's

pictures of man holding an AK47 crossing our harbour bridge (national icon) on television

people in Victoria who have moved out of the state because of the violence

how the unified intelligence community have achieved nothing, no tangible intelligence information used to prevent Bondi.

The shooters on Visa's on watch list

and here we are fighting for our way or life.

Think about this disarm those within the law and we will be dictated to by those who don't acknowledge the law.

The Government stopped all motorcycle clubs from wearing their jackets to prevent organised crime how did that work out now they hire hits at public events. Great step forward removing their jackets.

If you want your sport to remain consider what is at risk here. The media and even the Police made such a big statement that they were a licenced firearm owner and they had six registered guns how many were they firing at once?. Only a few months ago it was broadcasted about several owners in Sydney having hundreds of guns at various locations. What was the need for that it put those registered gun owners at risk.

About - risk Ceasar has my gratitude, he did what he had to do and he and Ahmad and all those who risked to save lives there is no gratitude that repays what they did. Their actions saved lives, it saved a point in time where during atrocity comes resilience in times of terror people stand up they push back against oppression.

I have been let down, we will be let down by the Government if these diversionary tactics by this Government to focus on law abiding Australian citizens, take all the guns what that will achieve under ground sales of firearms being brought into this country. Only then will they address the real issue, but it will be too late because the Government can't hide behind pens and pointing the finger the unseen danger is here and it will be knocking on their door.

Stay silent and accept the changes that are coming or stand up for your way of life.

So disappointed.

Gentlemen.....

I believe you have misinterpreted my post. I have no intention of remaining silent, but my point was that until we know exactly what Federal or State have planned its a bit hard to write letters, etc., complaining about it. As a member of the SSAA State committee in SA I am well aware of what we are planning here, and I am part of the planning process.

I do not intend to discuss this further in open forum.
