Well, I  have written (email) to:

The local MP

The Premier

Leader of the Opposition

Leader of the Nats

Police minister

I don't know if it will help or not, but what I do know is that if they are not written, they will definitely not make a difference!

I hope everyone does the same!

Sadly this incident at Bondi was exactly what all governments and anti gun lobbyists have I have been waiting for and within hours were rubbing their hands together with the thought of finally a reason to proceed with their agendas

The fact one rifle could have had the same effect has been ignored and I genuinely believe it’s out of our hands.

I have signed the petition and hope that common sense prevails but I doubt it will make a difference.
So in saying that where that leaves the Target Shooters I don’t know.

10 target rifles , 4 hunting rifles in NSW .

What the government classifies each of these 2 examples as is yet to be explained clearly and to what end game can shooters adhere to in NSW.
The legislation is at this stage casting a broad blanket with little detail .

Anyone knows more please enlighten us

NSW Police site  Link: https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/online_services/firearm

Points of note:

  • No more than 10 firearms for a licensee with the following genuine reason:
    • Primary production
    • Vertebrate pest animal control (with the ability for the Commissioner to approve a greater number)
    • Business or employment (with the ability for the Commissioner to approve a greater number)
    • Occupational requirements related to rural purposes
    • Animal welfare
    • Sport/target shooting (with the ability for the Commissioner to approve a greater number)
  • No more than 4 firearms for a licensee with the following genuine reason:
    • Recreational hunting/vermin control
  • For a licensee with more than one genuine reason, the higher limit will apply.
  • Firearms dealers and collectors: No limitation on the number of firearms.

This affects all of us, but the most interesting point is:

Sport/target shooting (with the ability for the Commissioner to approve a greater number).

This could allow us to have the four hunting rifles plus enough target rifles for Benchrest and another discipline.

The people I feel for the most under this new legislation are the gun shops — how will they continue to operate at the same capacity if the community can no longer buy new guns?
