[Sticky] NEW BENCHREST SCORING PROGRAM

Hi Shooters. Most people who participate in Benchrest would be aware that we currently use the Benchrest Bulletin scoring program for scoring all our registered matches. This program was developed by Rob Carnell and has served us well for a couple of decades. Unfortunately, in recent times the scoring program has not performed to optimal level. Without going in to too much detail, the main issue is compatibility with new technology. The code with which the program was written is not widely supported. At the Australia Day shoot this past weekend, all the aggregate scores had to be manually calculated and entered which is far from ideal. In light of these issues, we approached programmers and web developers with a scope of requirements for a new scoring program. In basic terms, the new program will need to do all the things that the Benchrest Bulletin program did, including transferring the database from Benchrest Bulletin to the new program and additionally, automate all record keeping, Shooter of the Year points, Hall of Fame points etc... The proposed new program will be web based with easy access for users and no need for program installation on your PC. This will give us instant target by target live results available for all to see as it happens. There is of course a cost to this and funds need to be raised. Les Fraser was kind enough to bring this issue up at an informal meeting during the Australia Day shoot last weekend where we explained the situation to the shooters there. It is important to note that all clubs can have access to this program, either for registered matches or their internal club matches. We asked the shooters at the meeting to support us in this with a contribution to help cover the initial cost and were met with an excellent response where we were able to raise about half the funds required to fund the program. We are now asking Benchrest shooters and clubs to help out and contribute what they can so we can get this program live as soon as possible The ongoing monthly maintenance cost will need to be covered this may mean a small fee to the clubs using the program. It is important to note that all funds raised will be available for all contributors to see. Any additional funds raised in excess of requirements will be put back into the sport via ongoing maintenance of the scoring program or prizes at shoots.
