Yes I do have a reasonable amount of Fly shoot history stuff of course. I'm not sure that Jim or John ever did keep much or even take photos really.  But I always did. But unfortunately neither John Rawson or Jim McKinley are with us anymore. 

I have results and some photos of the first Fly Shoot in 1990. Including a group photo of all shooters, target crews and scorers. I have put names to most of those in that photo which I recall them.

I have added attached a photo of the first results sheet here just to start off. Seem to be I can only add one file per post.

BTW, I'd like to ask please, could you please change your profile to your name so we all know who we are talking to? "4range" doesn't say anything to any of us. I don't mean offense but I feel we all just need to know who we are talking with in all posts, exactly the same way as if we were all chatting directly at a match somewhere. You will notice that almost all forum chats you see each persons actual name.

I have vague recollections of those shoots  including half flys and have a standing argument with a mate over who shot what 😀

I remember Jim and John fondly as they were very encouraging to us as young blokes with no idea.

I am by no means competitive, except within my mates...we generally compete for the last 3 positions....I still have no idea!

Very good! Anyway your memory is right, there were some "Half Fly shoots" too. Instead of 10 target matches they were 5 target matches. I do have some results of these also. I am just waiting a response from the website owners to help find out why I cannot add photos. Not even one photo. Most of the results are photos.

Just as a matter of interest, I am not sure if you recall that John used to put on some sort of fun event at the end whilst scorers tallied up the scores for the day? There were the Egg shoots and we had some particular embroided patched for that. Do you recall?

Also of different occasions another version of Half Fly. He cut some Fly targets in half vertically and posted those targets. Alternating between a left side or a right side. It was $5 in and you could have a crack. Highest score took all. Of course any shot which went off the target half that was cut off didn't score.

I do have 1991 results on PDF. Will see if these will add.

It appears at this stage I can only add PDF files on this forum.So until I can have Michael or John look at this I cannot post results etc as nearly all are actually photos (JPG files)

In the meantime, just for general interest I found a copy of the original formal agreement between us to officially hand over the Fly Shoot to SSAA National body.

I will attach that PDF.

What happened was, after 20 years there became insurance problems where any range, or shooting organisation needed us to have insurance for the event before it could be held on their ranges. In some States started to need official approval with their Weapons Licensing (QLD for example). So since we did not have any fund raisings and did not derive any income from the matches at all, it was either a case of....it all had to stop or we hand it all over to a National Body to run in the future. SSAA was the obvious choice of course and it would be placed under the SSAA National Benchrest discipline as one of the Benchrest events. A few years later though, it got removed from the "Benchrest discipline" and set up on its own as it now remains.

At the time Kaye McIntyre was the in charge of the National Disciplines, SSAA. Peter Moran was the President of the ACT Branch. This all included the "Fly Target" design which was a registered design, including the 10 rules and scoring, if the names of the 3 of us.
