Hi Shooters, after reading through the threads perhaps they may be an opportunity to have spare equipment at Matches that shooters can try short Range BR. And as a group we may be able to encourage new shooters to try the sport.

We have practice days at matches and also some are able to attend club matches where we may encourage shooters to try. I have a Remington .222 with a Alloy stock, leupold scope that shoots great, if someone else has a spare rest, rear Bag, we would have enough gear to give someone a try at Short range (new shooters only).

who knows we may get someone wishing to try the sport who then continues on.

The only cost would be range fee and ammo which wouldn't be much.

What you think?

Good Shooting to All Les

When I bought my latest Short Range Bench Rest rifle (BAT+ Scoville) from a fellow shooter (great rifle, thanks John!!) we transferred the ownership at the local gun shop. The shop assistant looked at the rifle and exclaimed “Struth. What sort of gun is that”. I went to a different gun shop when I was sourcing a suitable gun bag. The salesman said “That thing is more scope than rifle”.

Unfortunately, anyone wanting to explore target shooting may struggle to get informed guidance from the local gun shop. Searching the pages of the SSAA magazine is no better. There is very little accessible information on SRBR – unless you know what you are looking for - and there is the rub.

For somebody to be drawn to SRBR they need to be inspired by it, they need to be attracted to it, to be intrigued by it. Perhaps a bit of marketing is required. I feel that an ongoing dedicated page/section/subsection could be allocated in the body of the SSAA magazine with QR codes (or similar) that would link to:

Hopefully this would give inquisitive shooters the what, when and where of SRBR as a sport, and also the necessary details/links/contacts for their local club shoots. They can then come along to a shoot knowing some background information, ask questions to further their knowledge, and perhaps try a SRBR rifle as Les suggested.
