I have been reading some articles on annealing. Some put the brass in water to cool off immediately. Others let them cool down naturally, which is the best way to go. And how often should one anneal.

Hi Dave,

There is no need to quench the brass after the heating process. How often to anneal? You could anneal after every shot, it wouldn't hurt the brass but it's not neccesary. I anneal my cases after three or four firings. The idea is to have each case with the same amount of neck tension on the bullet. Rotating your set of cases helps, that is to say each case should be fired the same amount of times.

Important to note, you should only anneal the case neck an perhaps part of the shoulder but never the remainder of the body.
