Hi all,

I have been target shooting at 100m and 200m with a .222 Remington. While it’s plenty accurate, I’m ready to take the leap into a dedicated custom benchrest build. My goal is maximum small-group potential, but I dont need to be competitive.

I’d appreciate your insights on a few build specifics:

1. 6mm PPC vs. 6mm BR: Given that I want to avoid fire-forming and prefer buying high-quality factory brass (like Lapua/Alpha), is 6mm BR the logical choice here? Or is the PPC worth the extra brass prep steps even for casual benchrest?

2. 6mm PPC Factory Brass: If I did choose 6mm PPC, is factory Norma brass up to task, or is fire-forming Lapua .220 Russian still the only real way to go?

3. Neck Turning: Can I get away with a "No-Turn" chamber (.272" neck) for 6mm BR and still see top-tier accuracy at 100m/200m? 

4. Twist Rate & Bullets: For a 6mm BR dedicated to 100m/200m with <70gr flat-base projectiles, is a 1:13.5" or 1:14" twist still the ideal setup? Or would a faster 1:8" twist be worth considering for flexibility with heavier bullets later on?

5. Gunsmith Recommendations: I am based in NSW, but happy to send work interstate for a smith with proven benchrest chambering experience.
